Mbrojtja e Palit para Agripës
1 Agripa i tha Palit: «Ke leje të flasësh për veten».
Atëherë Pali ngriti dorën dhe u mbrojt kështu: 2 «E quaj veten të lumtur që po mbrohem sot para teje, o mbret Agripë, për të gjitha paditë që judenjtë kanë ngritur kundër meje, 3 sepse ti i njeh mirë të gjitha doket e mosmarrëveshjet e judenjve. Prandaj, të lutem, më dëgjo me durim.
4 Të gjithë judenjtë e dinë sesi kam jetuar që kur kam qenë i ri. Kam jetuar që nga fillimi mes popullit tim, në Jerusalem. 5 Ata më njohin që prej shumë kohësh dhe mund të dëshmojnë se unë i përkisja sektit më të rreptë të fesë sonë dhe se kam jetuar si farise. 6 Ndërsa tani qëndroj këtu për t'u gjykuar për shkak se shpresoj në premtimin që Perëndia u ka dhënë etërve tanë, 7 të cilin dymbëdhjetë fiset tona shpresojnë ta arrijnë, duke adhuruar Perëndinë ditë e natë me përkushtim. Për këtë shpresë, o mbret, më kanë paditur judenjtë. 8 Përse ju duket e pabesueshme që Perëndia të ngjallë të vdekurit?
9 Edhe unë vetë kam menduar se duhej të bëja gjithçka që mundesha kundër emrit të Jezuit të Nazaretit 10 dhe këtë gjë bëra në Jerusalem. Me pushtetin që mora nga kryepriftërinjtë kam çuar në burg shumë nga të shenjtët dhe kam dhënë miratimin tim kur i dënonin me vdekje. 11 Shpeshherë, në të gjitha sinagogat, jam munduar që me anë të dhunës t'i detyroj të mohojnë besimin e tyre dhe zemërimi im kundër tyre ishte aq i madh, saqë i kam përndjekur edhe në qytetet e huaja».
Pali tregon sesi u bë i krishterë
(Vp 9.1-19Vp 22.6-16)12 «Kështu, u nisa për në Damask me pushtetin e lejen e kryepriftërinjve. 13 Gjatë rrugës, aty nga mesdita, o mbret, pashë një dritë nga qielli, që ishte më e shndritshme se dielli, që shndriti rreth meje dhe atyre që udhëtonin me mua. 14 Ramë të gjithë përdhe dhe unë dëgjova një zë që më tha në hebraisht: “Saul, Saul, përse më përndjek? Do të lëndohesh duke hedhur shkelma kundër hostenit”. 15 Unë e pyeta: “Kush je ti, o Zot?”. Zoti m'u përgjigj: “Unë jam Jezui që ti po përndjek, 16 por ngrihu e qëndro në këmbë. T'u shfaqa që të të bëj shërbëtorin tim e që të dëshmosh ato që pe dhe ato që do të të tregoj. 17 Unë do të të mbroj edhe nga populli yt, edhe nga kombet, te të cilat po të dërgoj, 18 që t'u hapësh sytë, që të kthehen nga errësira në dritë dhe nga pushteti i Satanit te Perëndia. Kështu me anë të besimit në mua, do të marrin faljen e mëkateve e do të kenë pjesë me të shenjtëruarit”».
Pali flet për predikimin e vet
19 «Pas kësaj, o mbret Agripë, unë nuk mund të tregohesha i pabindur ndaj vegimit qiellor, 20 por fillova të predikoj së pari në Damask e në Jerusalem, dhe pastaj në mbarë krahinën e Judesë, si edhe te kombet, se ata duhet të pendohen e të kthehen te Perëndia dhe se duhet të bëjnë vepra që tregojnë se janë penduar. 21 Për këtë arsye judenjtë më kapën në tempull dhe u orvatën të më vrisnin. 22 Deri më sot më ka ndihmuar Perëndia dhe unë jam këtu për t'i dhënë dëshmi të madhit e të voglit. Unë nuk them asgjë tjetër, përveç atyre që thanë profetët dhe Moisiu se do të ndodhnin: 23 se Krishti do të vuante, do të ngjallej i pari prej të vdekurve e do t'u bënte të njohur dritën edhe popullit tonë, edhe kombeve».
Pali dhe Agripa flasin për besimin
24 Ndërsa Pali po thoshte këto fjalë në mbrojtje të vetes, Festi tha me zë të lartë: «Ke lajthitur, Pal! Po çmendesh nga të mësuarit e tepërt». 25 Por Pali tha: «Nuk kam lajthitur, o i madhërishmi Fest, por po them fjalë të vërteta e të arsyeshme. 26 Mbreti i njeh mirë këto gjëra, prandaj unë flas hapur me të. Jam i sigurt se asnjë nga këto gjëra nuk është e panjohur për të, sepse këto nuk kanë ndodhur në fshehtësi. 27 O mbret Agripë, a u beson profetëve? Unë e di se ti u beson». 28 Agripa i tha Palit: «Për pak edhe po ma mbush mendjen të bëhem i krishterë». 29 Pali u përgjigj: «Unë i lutem Perëndisë që herët a vonë jo vetëm ti, por edhe të gjithë ata që po më dëgjojnë sot të bëhen si unë, përveç këtyre prangave!».
30 Atëherë mbreti, qeveritari, Bernika dhe të gjithë ata që ishin ulur me ta u ngritën 31 dhe kur po dilnin, i thoshin njëri-tjetrit: «Ky njeri nuk ka bërë asgjë, që të meritojë vdekjen apo burgimin».
32 Agripa i tha Festit: «Po të mos kishte kërkuar të gjykohej prej Cezarit, ky njeri mund të ishte lënë i lirë».
1 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth the hand, and answered for himself: 2 I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews: 3 Especially because I know thee to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently. 4 My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews; 5 Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. 6 And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers: 7 Unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come. For which hope’s sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews. 8 Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead? 9 I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 10 Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them . 11 And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities. 12 Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, 13 At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me. 14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 15 And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. 16 But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; 17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, 18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. 19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: 20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judæa, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance. 21 For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went about to kill me . 22 Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: 23 That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.
24 And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad. 25 But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness. 26 For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner. 27 King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest. 28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian. 29 And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds. 30 And when he had thus spoken, the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them: 31 And when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds. 32 Then said Agrippa unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Cæsar.
